The LTG is perfectly fine unless you listen to a bunch of incompetent fucknuts who shouldn’t be allowed to own a car much less pretend to know how to tune one.

The transmission on the other hand, is the biggest pile of shit GM’s put out the door since the ... well frankly, I can’t remember a GM transmission this godawful. I mean seriously. It’s almost Ford 5R55W bad.

The best version was the Insignia OPC/Insignia VXR which had a 2.8L, twin turbo V6,  manual transmission, and Haldex.

One of my best friends is a GM dealer tech. The LTG is not fine, although it’s way better than the LFV.

The Aisin 8-speed is okay compared to the rest of the class as it’s been pretty good in other applications .

I agree with you regarding t he 9-speed in the Malibu 2.0T and Regal GS. That’s actually so bad that Ford won’t even touch it.

It would be an easy choice between this and an Infiniti Q60 Red Sport 400 considering they cost about the same. In this case, “AMG-enhanced” means it’s as quick as a naturally-aspirated S63.

It’s even easier than that. Pretty much all cars that meet CMVSS compliance are also FMVSS compliant, meaning you could probably legally  import it into the states with minimal hassle

Don’t know what he or his customers are smoking, but it must be damn good. Maybe go look at the actual TSBs on the 14-17 batch in the Regal sometime. Or the lack thereof, more accurately. If they aren’t handled by complete fucking idiots who insist on only using 87 octane or trying to turn up the boost or slap a chip in it.

T he only problems I’ve had stem from one bad casting (cylinder wall microfracture with no impact under spec operation ) and the head really not liking certain cam setups. None of the allegedly “endemic” burnt or fragged pistons. Just the expected SIDI coking at 30k or so.

The 9 speed is cancer, period. But the AF50-8's also junk, period. It’s nowhere near as good as the AF40 was, and GM made a bunch of idiotic modifications based on what they “learned” from the 9 speed . It’s slower than shit, won’t take any pressure rise, and has no end of flaring issues even before that. Look up the complaints for the Toyota Camry ‘17 on without CVT. That’s the same unit. Lexus RX, notorious for shuddering and slipping? Same unit.

It’s. Junk.

45k USD makes it one of the most expensive wagons, but only because there’s so few, and most are single turbo 2.0L - 2.5L 4 bangers.

But for comparison’s sake, 45k is also the base price of an Audi S3 Sedan. A car with only around 300HP/TQ. Yes, it is about as fast as the wagon but that’s because it’s a lit lighter and smaller than the wagon. Meanwhile the CLA45 stomps all over the S3 for the same price (in canada at least)

There’s a difference between a mediocre transmission and a time bomb. Pretty much all 8-speed and 9-speed transverse automatic  transmissions suck. ZF still can’t get the 9HP right and they make the industry yardstick for longitudinal automatic transmissions. The AF50-8 is slow and jerky but I’d take one over a CVT and I haven’t seen any blow up yet so they aren’t any better or worse than most other 8-speed and 9-speed transverse automatic transmissions.
